Our History
Shawn Stussy, a Californian surfboard manufacturer, began the brand by marking his handcrafted boards with his surname using a bold-tipped marker. This logo, derived from his uncle Jan Stussy’s signature, became synonymous with the brand. Over time, Shawn extended this design to t-shirts, shorts, and caps, which he sold out of his car around Laguna Beach, California. While often mistaken for the popular “Cool S” symbol of the 1990s, the Stüssy logo holds its unique origin story.
